How we both met

We met in 1996 after being told by mutual friends that we were perfect for each other.

The Wedding Venue

Our wedding in 1998 was at Langley Castle, Hexham…

We chose to go back to Langley Castle to renew our wedding vows on our 27th Anniversary – 22nd June 2025.

This place is were our love story began as we got engaged at the Castle in 1997.

Why we chose to have a celebrant wedding ceremony

Jo was recommended to us by Langley Castle, we were told she was amazing! I started following Jo on Instagram and knew immediately that it was Jo we wanted.

Her ceremonies seemed so personal and I loved that with Jo we could make our ceremony so special and personal to us.  We were so happy that she had our date free and booked in straight away!

Ideas about what our ceremony could have looked like

After seeing Jo on social media we knew how we wanted the ceremony to go.  We met Jo and we were able to discuss what we wanted and how we wanted ‘everything’ to look on the day.

We decided we wanted the ceremony outside with celebration drinks, our love story told, and a symbolic handfasting.

On the actual day it was another level – it was simply perfect! We would highly recommend Jo as she is professional and became a friend.  She ‘got’ us completely!  She’s bubbly, happy always super positive, even when I was worrying about the weather.

Jo is such a lovely person and made our ceremony perfect, she even did a handfasting for my Alex’s parents after our ceremony – simply because it would be special for them too!

The best part of the ceremony for us

It was so special for us to have a small group of our friends and family with us.  We got our outdoor ceremony with live music and drinks, it was so special as Jo told our love story so beautifully.

The highlight for us was the handfasting were our adult children, granddaughter and Alex’s sister laid ribbons over our joined hands. It was so symbolic!

What our guests said about our wedding ceremony/day

Alex’s mother said she was just amazed by the ceremony she didn’t know what to expect but she loved it .  Our family and friends said it was the best ceremony they had ever seen – just so special and so personal to us both.

Some of our fav wedding suppliers and why we chose them

  • Love Jo was where it all started ! Jo was at the beginning of all the planning and we were guided by her. She was so bubbly and supportive we felt she really guided us and helped us in deciding what we wanted and how we wanted our day to look (after all she does this all the time and she is amazing at it )
  • MUA – Alice Armstrong who is honestly the best for soft glam – my make up was perfect she ‘got’ exactly how I wanted to look – she is amazing at what she does  and so lovely.  My morning with her getting ready was so chilled.
  • Hairstylist – Nadia Scott Hair I followed Nadia for a while and knew I wanted her to do my hair. On our first meeting she knew exactly how I wanted my hair to look and worked a miracle. On the morning she was lovely and calm just so good to be around
  • Dress – Soul Bride – Mackies corner, Sunderland – what can I say – Gemma designs her own dresses that are for the alternative bride (I could not find what I wanted in any of the bridal shops) until I found Soul bride!  My dress was called Florence.  Gemma went above and beyond to support me in helping to find my dress with absolutely no pressure to buy and I could take photos!  My dress was breathtaking and perfect for the venue.
  • Bridesmaid dress’s – Rare Bridal Washington made my two granddaughters dresses.  Again another supplier that went above and beyond to help me – Jade & Rita are a dream team to work with – fantastic service!
  • Photography – Liam McCormick – honestly such a lovely professional man who put us straight at ease. We have fantastic photos of our day, he even recreated some of our original photos – he is just the best!
  • Video – Daniel Vincent Films – what can I say other than our video is amazing.  Dan incorporated some of our 27 year old wedding video into our new one – it was so emotional to watch and I still cry watching it now – he is just the best
  • Flowers – The Wild Bunch, Sunderland – amazing flowers.   Lisa did our wedding flowers and she kindly agreed to do do our Renewal ones – recreating some of my original flowers but with a twist – just perfect.
  • Cup cakes – Vanilla teas – the most beautiful fresh fruit cupcakes that tasted amazing.
  • Cheeses boards – Corbridge larder – always the best cheeseboards!
  • Stationary – Finishing touches print by Jess – beautiful stationary so personal to us.
  • Music – AMV music – Remy was booked through AMV and played live music and sang during our ceremony and drinks reception – special to have live music to walk in and out to!

Three words that sum up our ‘Love Jo’ experience!

Amazing, Love and Unique.
