How we both met

We met on match.com. Andy sent Hazel a message with the offer of a spare ticket to go and see Dylan Moran at the Tyne Theatre. We like to describe our initial moment of connection as based entirely on bribery 😊 Hazel was hesitant at first as she never said yes to a date after one message, but after a few days of back and forth messages, including multiple rock paper scissor jokes and discovering a mutual love for movies, she eventually agreed.

Why we chose to have a celebrant wedding ceremony

We wanted a ceremony that was really personal. We also wanted to meet the person who was going to conduct our ceremony and get to know them, so they could help us build a ceremony that truly reflected who we are.

Ideas about what our ceremony could have looked like

We had a few ideas – we’re huge movie fans so we wanted to incorporate our love for cinema into the ceremony. We also have a love for improvised comedy, and so we knew we wanted a certain element to be spontaneous and something we couldn’t plan for – we wanted to have a celebrant who could support that! Mainly our mantra was to have 50% sentiment, and 50% laughter. We definitely achieved that!

The best part of the ceremony for us

Such a hard question as we loved every second of it! From a general standpoint, we loved how personal it was to us. We had comments afterwards from our guests that they had never seen a ceremony with so much personality before. If we had to pick one thing, we’d say how Jo told our story – with warmth and humour.

What our guests said about our wedding ceremony/day

‘What a unique wedding!”

“That represented who you are so perfectly!”

Some of our fav wedding suppliers and why we chose them

  • Our venue, Brinkburn Street Brewery. They had never hosted an actual ceremony before, but they couldn’t do enough for us to make sure we had the perfect day.
  • Our photographer, Barry Forshaw, captured the real spirit of the day.
  • Birdcages and Dragonflies dressed the venue with some amazing vintage pieces, and lighting.
  • And the flowers from Bloomhead added so much to the look and feel of the wedding.

Three words that sum up our ‘Love Jo’ experience?
